YouTube videos, helpful!!
Riding through Ann Arbor, I witnessed a bike going fast down a sidewalk, not using the road with bike lane. My thought, "He's going to find a car soon." I turned up that road, using the bike lane. Within one block was a ghost bike. A ghost bike is painted white, has lots of flowers, and it specifically notes where a cyclist was killed; lost a life; taken from this earth.
As I was riding west, this ghost bike was on the north side of the road along the sidewalk. I suspect this rider lost his/her life due to fear of the road, was going down the sidewalk with the road on his/her right, the absolutely worst place for cyclists! Riding paths and sidewalks along a road is most dangerous because cars will cross these paths without looking as they, and admittedly, you and I while driving, will be on the lookout for cars on the upcoming road.
Use the bike lane on the road when provided. Be seen!!
